A silhouette shines

in the Moonlight, a hoot pierces

the silence of night

spreading out its wings and claws

the snowy raptor takes a flight!

Tanka is a Japanese form of non-rhymed lyrical poem consisting of 5 lines. A tanka in English follows a short-long-short-long–long pattern.
