Painting My Home Canvas

Change is the only constant in our life.

A natural part of growing up is the change in our likes and dislikes.

The perception of our home, and the room we call our own,

Like our personality, changes with time.

So, when I was a little girl, I wished that stars would come to my room,

And bring down with them the charming moon.

They should all stick on to my ceiling

Till I got the drowsy feeling

and drifted off to sleep.

Then, in my teens, I had the urge to prove that I am one of a kind

Tidying, I thought, was a waste of time.

I wanted my things strewn all around my room.

So, I needed a big cupboard with a shutter, to hide all the clutter,

Till my mom demanded cleaning with a broom.

When I was a young girl, I moved from Delhi to Mumbai,

My dreams had grown taller, the space though was smaller

I frantically shopped for things that could fit and fold.

Or wardrobes that could hold – Clothes, books, cds, and all other stuff.

Many of those things had to go into the box of the bed;

Pulling them out was something I would dread.

Now, in my middle age, I look for style, comfort and grace.

Everything needs to be prim and in proper place,

For an elegant unfettered look, with a feel of space.

Godreh HomeCanvasMy dream home would be distinctively Indian, yet universal in appeal

Blending occidental and oriental look and feel.

With a wall in each room in a contrasting texture and shade that reflects fine taste

And displays paintings and works of art, to cheer the soul and bring joy to the heart.

Wall mounted TV for watching the cable, comfortable seating along with side tables.

Home is where heArt is, so placeholders for artifacts are a must;

That are easy to maintain, and do not gather much dust.

minimalist and yet a bright look to complement the brightness of the garden outside, is what I envisage.

Door skins to go with designs on the walls, and wooden textured cupboards with knobs of brass.

All that I have summed up so far, completes the picture of my #HomeCanvas

    True, this is exactly what we feel about our home, sweet home 🙂 Our desires and dreams change with our age, but all combine to build a perfect home canvas…
    Loved the poetic interpretation 🙂

      Hey thank you Saru. Actually a bedroom in one of the houses in which I stayed had ceiling painted with stars that glowed in the dark. My daughter loved it. 🙂

    You poured your heart Somali in sharing about dream home…Indian but with a universal appeal to marry the both of both worlds. Home has a personal feeling to it and brings so much of comfort.
